A Wish for Hope
Chapter Twelve

“We found a number of these, Princess Neselle. Considered it something particular to the family or place.”

“Don’t you recognize it?” I asked with a stern tone to my voice. “We have a serious problem that involved this place. A problem so serious that Jelnaya had to slaughter people and military. Something wrong, like this, should have been reported.”

I kept my face expressing my seriousness even as Horgulse showed fear as he said, “You don’t know my situation, Duchess.”

“Sure I do. Death.”

One dressed in robes said, “I would take her words seriously, Baron.”

Chapter Ten

“Brutheyer, is Esgalia presenting you with a problem?”

“No, Lord Terish. I believe he just had questions.”

I felt a hand on my shoulder as the man said, “Esgalia, I honestly do not know how your situation involves Jelnaya. According to what she has told me, your problem should have been stabilized.”

Those words got me angry, so I spewed, “We were changed into animals.”

I moved to pat the man on a cheek while saying, “That’s a compliment, Vulge. Now, back to what we are here to do.”

Aunt Neselle however stopped me to ask, “Didn’t you find it strange to encounter so many of these monsters?”

“I was looking for something to justify the death I caused. Honestly, Aunt Neselle, I was glad to see so many.”

The one in yellow armor gained my focus as someone informed me, “Princess Jelnaya, we were not allowed to pass.”

I strode to the divine soldier to say, “I won’t go to sleep as long as you are there, so you –“

A hand of Aunt Neselle came on my shoulder as she said, “Jelnaya, I believe this is the reason you came for me.”

Chapter Seven

“What is the problem, Esgalia? The soldiers saw you here crying. Did you hurt yourself?”

“I’m not human,” I sobbed. “I can’t think like I used to. I was listening to you go around speaking with the people who were still alive in the town, and tried to make sense of what advice you were giving.” Working through my mental agony, I managed to say, “I – can’t – think – like that anymore.”

My Jelnaya asked, “Is she nice?”

Althery replied, “There is a difference in being nice and acting nice. Jelnaya can definitely have you wondering about her.”

I had to admit, “That is true, but I have always liked having her around. That is one reason I named you after her, Jelnaya. I wanted you to be someone people would be glad to have around.”

The monarch looked to me as he asked, “Esgalia, what do you have to say about that?”

“I was transformed. I was a normal person. I don’t want any trouble, but I would like help to be restored.”

“So, you’re hoping Jelnaya can restore you?”

“She was the one that stopped the ones that changed us. We are hoping she can have us changed back.”

Chapter Four

What stopped me was seeing the fox people. Vulge I could understand. While I definitely wanted to speak to him, the fact that he came with fox people troubled me.

Not hearing my god speak, I strode forward feeling that one thing that happened the day before provided me with a direction to go while also explaining the arrival of someone I trusted. “All right, Vulge, you’re in charge!”

He replied, “I’m in charge? In charge of what?”

Chapter Three

Vulge asked, “Are they dangerous?”

I could not prevent myself from saying, “You just heard that there were more of us, many more, but they were slaughtered with some eaten in my presence. What does that tell you about us being dangerous?”

“Listen, we are talking about moving through the omniverse. There are things out there that could possibly slaughter and eat Prince Venicht’s father, and some will come as simple, weak beggars.”
