Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., is the pacesetter in the trading card game and tabletop roleplaying game categories, and the leading developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products. Wizards of the Coast is considered the global leader in hobby gaming, developing and publishing game based and other entertainment products celebrated the world over.
Wizards of the Coast is currently holding the rights to Dungeons & Dragons. Many fans of D&D 2e or Second Edition have become disillusioned with Wizards of the Coast due to lack of quality material in comparison to the amount of material created for what is regarded to some of the community as a money maker. Wizards thus is being credited for turning D&D into a cash cow similar to another WotC game, Magic: The Gathering.
The other camp of gamers argue that Wizards of the Coast has done a good job of presenting a workable framework called the D20 System which has been adapted by a number of games. There is a complaint that they do not support the history of the games that they have the rights to (example: you cannot buy a 2ed core book even though MANY people still play 2ed and would probably desire to replace their worn-out manuals). They do however manage to keep their games available to the general public.
