Chapter Nine - Part 2
Pelshulatil knocked on Sylvia's door the next morning. The yellow haired lady was surprised by the visit, but was gracious enough. Pelshulatil truthfully had only stopped by to inform the lady that Mially was also welcome at the table this morning. It was an accepted practice that prime personal servants were allowed to dine on the day of departure. Some old superstition concerning securing a peaceful journey was at the root, but everyone considered the practice harmless.
The married lady felt good seeing the room. Sylvia was attired in an old dress that showed some improvements. The young lady was lovely enough to make any garment look good, but Pelshullatil had to admit that the dress was a good one for travel. She had definitely not just put it on, but had been awake for some time. Her stuff had mostly been packed. Nothing was lying around like a woman who had made the room her home.
"Take care of my brother‑in‑law."
Our heroes finally get on their way only to start it with a fight.

Chapter Nine - Part 1
The baroness tried to argue during supper that the travelers needed to spend another day around the castle. None of the three were going to argue against it, but they simply felt certain that the same argument would be heard tomorrow evening. They only paid attention to the conversation to be able to catch the final decision. The baron seemed to believe the same, because he kept assuring the young people that by morning their wagon would be ready.
Feladin and Sylvia were again trading signals. It started as an aside to the baron's comments of everything being packed. The young elf lady basically asked the priest concerning certain items. Oggelly knew that both were proficient with the international deaf sign language. Feladin had learned to deal with deaf customers and Sylvia had learned to connect with deaf fans. Most gestures were too obvious to use at the table, but their hands could spell and their minds used dwarven language rules so it did not take too much activity to get meanings across the table. The minstrel was not that knowledgeable in sign language, but most letters were slightly obvious.
Oggelly started seriously watching the two when Feladin pulled back his hand to hide certain signals. Sylvia smiled as she sent back a reply. It was just two fingers. A smile was on the yellow haired lady's face, and the minstrel turned to see one on Feladin's as well. Oggelly happened to also catch the innocent smile of Larruth as he was also watching the lady. A connection formed in the minstrel's mind, and he fell out of his chair and on the floor laughing.
Final details are handled before our group starts their journey around the world.

Chapter Eight - Part 3
There were soldiers at a distance, but Sylvia was presently alone with Larruth in a buggy away from the castle. He was very pleased that the lady had accepted him as a companion. The young man attempted to say all sorts of lovely phrases after the meal the night before, and again during the morning, but Sylvia kept interrupting him. The baroness and Pelshulatil must have been listening from a distance, because the two arrived during one interchange to support Sylvia. They took away Larruth, and when he returned he apologized for his earlier remarks. He politely asked the lady permission to take her on a private journey to show her more of the loveliness of his home before he left it. Sylvia had to give the young man credit for his demeanor, his phrasing, and his return to a more formal attitude, so she agreed.
Larruth drove the coach through the town and on north. He stopped before a flow of water that was barely large enough to be called a river and pointed towards the two mountains that supported Lake Gawill . He spoke of fishing, and Sylvia allowed herself to chat on the topic. He then had the horses pulling the wagon move to a thick growth of tall trees that were not one of the local fruit trees, and spoke of hunting animals. Sylvia spoke on that topic as well. The next destination was the top of a hill that had been recently cleared of trees, and he spoke of his home. Sylvia allowed herself to mention some facts of her home.
Larruth finally felt able to say, "You have not mentioned flowers once, although each place I took you to had them."
Our heroes work to reassess their own positions.

Chapter Eight - Part 2
Petham sat across from Aynagitian. The orange haired witch truthfully felt that there were other places to be, but none that demanded his immediately presence. Petham was only wandering around when he received a request for certain papers from the royal mage. Being at a dead end in his own research, the witch agreed.
Traveling to other worlds had definitely allowed the half-elf to see a number of fantastic sights and speak to a number of exotic beings, but foreign accommodations were not always the best. Petham looked at his host while appreciating having a chair that was comfortable and food that was tasty. When the meeting finally concluded, the witch would definitely make it a point to get some sleep in a bed made for his frame.
The purple eyes of the half-elf watched Aynaglitian. The royal mage was not one to study for moments of mental brilliance, but because he was treacherously devious. Petham was certain that the elf had killed the only known member of the final group of orange shirts just because the royal mage suspected him of being an eventual contact for eventual sabotage. The witch very much wanted to notice any hint that Aynaglitian was about to perform another major act of questionable ethics.
A sub-plot is kept alive, then a coming plot development finally occurs. Yes, this is the installment that was recently posted.

Well, the database crash is not a complete disaster. For those that do not know, I do keep back chapters on my website. This is thus a great opportunity for those of you only now coming upon the story to catch up (although I believe that this is not a hard story to come into during the middle).

Chapter One – Part 2
Virtiozet was a mature elf male barely into his fourth century of life. He was the heir to the duchy of Iylytton in the southern middle section of the expansive elven forest called Mayladegrallidin. The man stood a few inches short of six feet with pale violet hair that was cut short. His light frame walked erect as his emotionless face directed his feet through the corridors of his castle home.
The elf noble knocked on the door of his father's apartment. There was no action from either of the soldiers to the side of the portal, so the man knew that his father was inside. The knock was nothing more than something to do while waiting for some signal to wait for a better time. Since nobody was telling him to do otherwise, Virtiozet went ahead and operated the latch.
One part of the major sub-plot is introduced, then events turn back to the main characters to better present them.

Chapter One - Part 1
Sylvia was still cold. Her yellow hair was wet and cold. Her dress was wet and cold. The two men with her could say all they wanted about the temperature here in the cave being considerably more pleasant than that outside, but the fact was that she was cold. The only thing working in her favor was that the movement of running from a dragon kept her blood warm.
The elf girl and her two companions had suspected the cavern of being a dragon lair, but the frigid rain outside forced them to take the chance and enter. It was indeed the home of a large foul breathing flying lizard. All three had been glad that the monster was presently gone, but searched the cave for places to hide once the mighty reptile returned.
This starts the second novel in the Sylvia Cycle. It follows "Loss of a Name" that was presented about a year ago and is now being set for publication (PM or email me for info).

Chapter Eleven
Parthess really hated moving into the water. Its essence was the opposite of the element of fire that made up his being. It also would reveal his location as the moving liquid would show the void made by his invisible foot and leg. Events were presently not working in his favor and he needed to call upon more favors. He had to win this battle, because the cost of failure was becoming so great that death was beginning to look like a pleasant fate.
Having to get down and crawl into the opening from which came the stream was a further humiliation. The position was necessary, but Parthess still felt that it made him appear weak at a time when things were going against him. He normally would consider such an act as him graciously abasing himself to relate to those of lesser station, but he would also at that time be giving commands instead of asking for favors. To beg while on his hands and knees was not something Parthess would let those witnessing live long enough to relate to others.
The dramatic end comes to this story.

Chapter Ten
The fight at the south end of the rift was not the simple eradication of a threat that those who took on the challenge had felt that it would be. Parthess did flee, but what all expected to be a certain trap had erupted into something more than a last stand by a cornered animal. A huge monster looking like some combination of dragon and fish was set in the pond. While a few soldiers had commanded their steeds to charge into the water to directly combat the threat there, others tried to spot their primary adversary who was invisible and now surely flying.
Jason had hoped that his earlier riding out of the rift would be only seen as him protecting his wife. He had a couple of his soldiers accompany him, but they were truly for show. He had a company of men already on station with the laborers. Agreeing with a statement made by the mermaid that their opponent was too haughty to take out his wrath on those of low rank, Jason gathered his military personnel and had them move to the edge of his rift. They were given the command to open fire on any threat that sought to fly out.
Both sides of the attack are dealt with as everyone attempts to finish the problem at hand.
