Gen Con Europe

Highlights of Gen Con Europe in London 2003.

Gen Con Europe was held at the Olympia 2 Convention Center in London April 18 - 21, 2003. There was four full days of gaming events and lots of auxiliary events to participate in. Some of these include shopping in the trade hall, watching anime films, participating in the charity auction, costume contest, or pop quiz, voting on the Ultimate Extreme Gamer Abuse-O-Rama, and a computer gaming LAN.

Attendance was approximately the same as 2002 although we had anticipated much higher attendance. A few of the factors that we believe hindered attendance were the dates (Easter) and the train stike. Unfortunately we were all a little disappointed but those that did come claimed to have a great time!

The Future of Gen Con Europe

Plans for a Gen Con Europe convention in 2004 or 2005 have changed. We do not plan on producing a Gen Con Europe in 2004 or 2005 but we do not want to see the Gen Con brand die in Europe so we are looking into other options for the future.

The main reasons for the change is that we are concerned that due to language and cultural barriers, a large pan-European Gen Con event might be difficult to realize. We also feel that the complexity of this task is compounded by the fact that we are an American company and our team has several new employees, or employees in new positions. We feel we need to adopt a less ambitious strategy until we gain more experience and refine our systems. We still plan to launch a new show in Southern California in December and our flag ship show in Indianapolis. If you have any questions please feel free to contact customerservice@gencon.com
