Member submitted 3rd Ed Prestige Classes New & original : Undead Master
Posted by CirJohn on Thursday, December 11, 2003 (13:47:26) (3241 reads) 3 comments |

Masters of the undead take many forms. Many are necromancers who seek to further thier mastery of the damned. Others are priests and priestesses of dark gods, using the powers given to them for the most vile of puposes. Whatever thier role in life, all undead masters share a desire for control that drives them onward. In some, it takes the form of a desire for a pefect world. In others it shows itself as the conquest of the undead master's nieghbors. It is most likely this desire for control that led the undead master to his current path. This path is almost always a lonely one. Most people fear an undead master for the same reasons they fear evil necromancers: thier power over the dead and the risk of losing ones soul. For this undead masters are reviled by goodly folk and hunted when uncovered. However, some undead masters manage to keep their true powers a gaurded secret and live around thier own kind.

Black Isle Studios Shuts Down

12.08.2003
CHARLES MARCHIONE STAFF REPORTER

PC RPG developer Black Isle Studios has been shut down by Interplay. Despite success in the late 90s with the Baldur's Gate and Fallout series, recent setbacks have proven to be too much for BIS and Interplay to handle. Many of the studio's most regarded workers, such as producer Feargus Urqhart, have recently left the studio. Furthmore, BIS's Dungeons & Dragons title was cancelled due to legal disputes with D&D rightsholders, Wizards of the Coast, and legality issues also occured with VU Games, resulting in console RPGs Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II being pushed back to next January. Interplay has lost approximately $20 million USD so far this year, making it harder for them to cope with the delays.

Chapter Seven - Part 3

Poyrastiosh and his wife looked over the books set in shelves in the upper library of Quershallivat. These were all the recognized classics written on the best parchment and encased by the most luxurious of bindings. A few texts were opened, and special sections were read, but the couple knew that these tomes were mostly for show. The entire room was truthfully for show. A large table was set next to the wall where a multitude of foot wide slits in the castle stone allowed for a wonderful view of the countryside beyond. The royal heir understood that the room could be the place where a squad of archers would work their skills on an advancing army, but allowed the moment to show him how grand a castle could be.

Some important discussions establish certain rationales and developments. Some major developments are coming, but a chapter like this needs to happen first.

Chapter Seven - Part 2

Duke Neymartain looked up from his desk to see his wife pass through his door. He rose to welcome her, and after she shut the door the elegantly dressed green haired lady moved into the embrace of her husband. The lord of the castle was glad that his wife had come, but quietly held her as he waited to learn her exact reasoning.

Gyllailor turned at the sound of the door opening, and waved the valet away as she moved to pour herself some wine. "My lord, I need to be quiet for a time. I cannot do that in my own chambers without anyone getting suspicious. Most know better than to speak, but word would come to you. Therefore, I am here."

Development in thoughts and strategies occur with our heroes and with important opponents.

Bards, Tails & Poetic License Derlin and the Daemon Lord
Posted by Superbish on Monday, December 01, 2003 (11:44:28) (1193 reads) 3 comments |

This short story was to be the first in a long series of first-hand accounts from Derlin, the Kender rogue, but, as it happens, is the only one of it's kind, transcribed as it was spoken at the Frothy Whale Inn in the city of Langon. (2,031 words)

Note: A Simple writing style but an interesting tale non-the-less (Thema)

Chapter Six - Part 3

The god Muysdian had been watching the city. Two events called him over. One was the act of a man taking a moment to seriously examine one of his altars. Another man was more important however, because he had been praying to the god to bless his actions. The girl he had been betrothed to was successfully seduced by another man. Feeling betrayed by one who had been considered a friend, the lost lover went and claimed a family heirloom. The magic item had an unsavory history that the family knew, but there was a need for which the item was suited. It was useful in bursting a frozen wood pile during winter or other similar need, although it had been created to be used for more deadly purposes. None were certain how many charges the item still had, but the man did not care and carried it into town prepared to use them all.

The Knight Chinael was from the town, so knew the jilted lover, the girl, and the man who enticed the lady. When the lost lover stormed into town, the knight suspected trouble. Intending to stop a disaster before it started, the knight soon found himself taking the damage that was planned for another. There were soldiers nearby to help, but the lesser noble knew it to be his place to lead in the conflict.

Our heroes do some more adjusting, but events are developing around them.

Chapter 6 - Part 2

The three sold their surplus of pork on the edge of town. They were worried that they would be called poachers, so cautiously approached a farmer and told him about the meat. He welcomed the chance to vary his diet, but was wary about how much it would cost him. None of the three had any idea about what to charge, but they knew what they needed as supplies. The farmer directed the three to his home within the walls of the city where his wife gave them some large pouches of basic ground grains and two small silver coins.

The three learned during this time. They were able to hear more of the local language in a fashion that allowed them to start altering their speech. They found that the small coins were called petals and the large ones crowns. The units were standard within limits of wear irregardless of what kingdom minted them, and converted in units of four: Four petals make a crown / With four crowns gold comes round. The wildlife was free to whoever as long as it was taken for food and not just slaughtered. Allowing anything edible to spoil was considered a crime.

Our heroes attempt to adjust more to their new world as they enter their first town.
