Chapter Fourteen - Part 5
Terish attempted to distract the avatar of his God by screaming, "He is just a kid, Terdeskollit! He might be having some effect, but whatever he is doing won't be effective. Ignore him!"
"The fight with you is slightly entertaining. This is merely me squashing a bug. Ignore me for the moment, Terish. I will return to consider you further in a moment."
Fred noticed the alumnus chase after Terdeskollit, but understood that almost nothing would stop the monstrous appearing humanoid. While he had taken a stance to face his opponent, the sight of the large scimitar let Fred know that he was hopelessly outclassed. He considered throwing the dagger then attempting to run. The only exit from the chamber was on a walkway too far up the wall of the spherical chamber, and the path was through the darkness that the magic in the room conjured. However bad the odds were, Fred understood that his best chance would be to fight.
The finale has come.

Monte Cook's site has information on a d20 mass combat system book. I personally didn't dig into the information very deeply, but recent interest in mass combat systems across many of the forums I read prompted me to point out the information.

Released today Wizards of the Coast has the new revised 3.5 edition Dungeons and Dragons SRDs on their website.
For those who do not know are basically the core books (PH, DMG, MM) without the fluff and descriptions available in the printed books. Downloadable for free ... and yes, completely legal to possess.
