Chapter Nineteen - Part 2

Oggelly showed up and was introduced to the visitor. The minstrel handled the reacquaintance with a skill that brought Feladin and Sylvia release. The half-elf focused on the man's military past, and managed to bring out facts that the three knew but were previously unable to admit that they knew.

The navy man told how he and his companions had convinced their superior officers to allow them time off to go to Hawaii. Their skills at strategy were something that was encouraged aboard their vessel, and their success in winning the invitation was an honor their superiors felt compelled to respect. A contest was held aboard the vessel to challenge the four. In winning that contest, the four were allowed to travel to Hawaii to win the other.

A chance to restate what happened to the three, and a chance to assure everyone that the main plot is not being forgotten.

Chapter Nineteen - Part 1

Larruth set the direction of heading to the Forshin valley. It was an important place to him because it was in that valley that the first elves were placed. The legendary Elva had ruled an expansive kingdom on the other side of the mountains from Forshin, but she made certain that the goddess understood that she did not want a form that found pleasure in the dry landscape she had made her home. The ruler of Forshin was more than willing to make allowances for the goddess and for Elva who had been a peaceful neighbor.

The terrain was not easy for the horses. The ground was composed of a soil that looked like decomposed volcanic rock. Stone flakes would often cause discomfort to all that walked unprotected on the ground. The material was not hard enough to pierce the boots or shoes of the party, but it did cut and tear at the protection forcing comments about buying new footwear in the next town. The hooves of the horses protected them as long as they walked slowly.

A new character is added as a major sub-plot begins to be set up.

Chapter Eighteen - Part 2

Sylvia was impressed with herself. She was making snow in a small little circle of her room. It was a nifty mix of conjuring water while siphoning fire, but the lady was certain that she needed to be able to force reactions like that to improve her ability. The fact that the process worked according to her notes she felt certain was proof that her skill at commanding the elemental forces was increasing.

The yellow haired elf lady was so preoccupied with her work that she did not register a soft but persistent knocking at her door. Mially did notice, and opened it to see Feladin. A gentle conversation passed between the priest and the maid with the result being his admittance.

Feladin smiled seeing the shocked expression of his friend as she accepted the glass of wine from him, and spoke to keep her calm. "How are you holding up?"

A nice set of scenes developing our four heroes. I have always liked this piece, and am glad that it can be presented in its entirety.

Chapter Eighteen - Part 1

"Can your maid cook?"

The captain owned a large vessel that transported cargo between continents while also running nets for fish. It was a friendly inquiry that Sylvia and her brother made of the man. No one had mentioned that the ship was in need of crewmen, and no offer of work was made. All that had been done was a simple question on whether the captain had space for passengers.

Sylvia decided to respond quickly and directly. "No, she cannot. I can, but I am not going to spend my time over the water where I cannot see the waves."

As our characters move to the next continent, politics are not left behind.

Chapter Seventeen - Part 2

The royal city was a very large conglomeration of humans and other races. Larruth had to speak in favor of its monarch, because he represented a lineage that had held the peace for many generations. The city had expanded past all attempts to protect its citizens behind walls, and such would not have happened if the people had not come to feel safe.

Because the group expected to leave the city upon a boat, they headed through the city towards the port. The group was friendly enough as they moved along the streets. While the citizens had not received any word about this group of travelers, their style of greeting and confidence of movement did help to announce that they were slightly above the norm.

"You are going to die," was all the warning that Oggelly had to move back as a man pulled a sword while staring at him.

Events continue to move forward.

Chapter Sixteen - Part 3

Sylvia found herself annoyed. Everything had been going rather well. After a couple of days of travel, the viscount's castle had been reached. She and her companions had been allowed into the rooms of the once ruling nobles with permission to claim what they desired. The men had found some suits of worth, along with cuff links and a few other glittering accessories. Sylvia had come out like a bandit. The viscountess had given the lady all of her personal belongings. Sylvia had her maid choose a couple of dresses and a few items of jewelry from the castle's wealth, but the noble lady had a number of pieces all her own. The viscountess's place was beside her husband in death. She asked for her personal wealth to buy her children from slavery. What was left over she gave to Sylvia instead of allowing it to be absorbed by the estate. The yellow haired lady had just spent the last hour or so wearing the riches before the men in her group. She was now finally in her room able to take off the adornment, but found herself unable to do it to the lady in the mirror. The clattering of stones in her hair to weigh down the feather hair, the dangling of gold and jewels from her ears, the tinkling of necklaces and other expensive items made her even more lovely. It just did not make her feel happy.

The reddish-orange haired maid was right there and noticed the hesitation. "Is there a problem, my lady?"

Our three learns some more about their new world.

Chapter Sixteen - Part 2

A minstrel showed up wanting to meet the group. The elder human was truthfully pleased with the style Larruth showed in securing the viscount, and wanted the prince's story. With all the facts of the tale related, the minstrel started to work on a composition. Oggelly did not try to bother the man, but served him a mug of beer and worked to keep it full as he watched someone more experienced at his profession.

To keep from trying to influence the fellow minstrel, Oggelly went to bother his sister. She had dug out one of her magic texts and was refreshing herself about the dome she had cast earlier. Sylvia found herself worried earlier about the men being shot from the side by bowmen, and wanted an open cylinder instead of a dome. Oggelly was not better than Feladin at discussing magic, but had tried enough times that he could often sound like he knew what was being discussed.

Queen Lefremillion takes a stand in the background plot of our story.

Chapter Sixteen - Part 1

The group continued their westward travel. The land stayed thick with trees, although expansive meadows became more common. The ground became almost all dirt under the grass with rocks becoming scarce. The travelers became concerned about rain because the downpours would make travel for their vehicle extremely difficult.

Sylvia was sitting with Mially in the front of wagon discussing certain features of clothes. It was not really a topic the yellow haired lady preferred, but she was not afraid of saying what she liked or did not like. She however did smile as her brother rode up.

Our group enters a serious military operation.

Chapter Fifteen - Part 2

To the most noble Baron Quanada and Baroness Challoisey of Aidelphia: Greetings from your son, Larruthornic

I have sat down to write this letter to inform you of my wonderful health and situation. I have continued to journey with the party that I was with when leaving Aidelphia. I have found them to be excellent companions. In deciding to leave, I came before you with words stating that my chance to improve my status would come sooner with more force. I still believe those words to be true.

Keir Feladin is a marvelous companion. Humans have such short life spans, and Keir Feladin shows no signs of age, but he moves and acts as one who has grown tall with the centuries. Both Oggelly and the Lady Sylvia respect his words. The Lady Sylvia will often sit and talk with the priest. Their debates are fun to listen to because of the friendship that is shown and the laughter that often erupts.

A slightly long section of three parts that I felt needed to stay together as it all covers a single issue.

Chapter Fifteen - Part 1

Knight Dengistriv made certain that the group did not leave Castle Hassalatoid quietly. He loaded the wagon down with supplies, then had a company of soldiers escort the group for a day. Larruth was quick to notice that that were many more present than was common for a normal military presence. He appreciated the sign of support, but felt that the number surrounding him and his friends was something more than a gracious blessing for the start of the journey. The reason was revealed when the soldiers made camp. They started cooking a magnificent supper as some brought out instruments and provided entertainment. Knight Dengistriv arrived as the food was being served to let the group know that he was very pleased with their strategic advice and felt that their games had given him some tricks to enable the military to better prepare themselves for human incursions. He thus felt the festivities were an earned reward.

Larruth noticed that his friends smiled as they enjoyed the evening. They would whisper comments to each other and laugh as if sharing a common joke. The prince did ask Sylvia what was so amusing, and she mentioned that this is what they expected when they once traveled to a place called Hawaii. She however did not explain what it was about her memories of that place she found funny.

Our group finally leaves the elven forest, and Feladin is given a chance to shine.
