Chapter Twenty-Three - Part 2
Sylvia awoke early the next morning out of habit. She felt a definite need for more sleep, but told her body that it needed to stay smiling for the moment. She was glad to see Mially present at the foot of her bed, but moved carefully to allow the maid to continue to sleep. Luckily, Sylvia saw her stuff set out in its usual manner, so there was no need to search around for things. It was hard for her to keep her eyes open as she applied the cosmetics. She remembered her life as a man being able to simply put on a tee shirt and stroll out to the breakfast table. That no longer was an option for her. Not only was she a woman, but a lady who had a presence to maintain. Sylvia sat down and did what was necessary to support her present identity.
The hostess and her servants were making breakfast in the kitchen when the elf lady entered. The working women were being entertained by Oggelly. Sylvia was handed a mug of what they called coffee and told to sit down. The liquid was black, but the lady's face twisted as the taste was strong and different. The servant that brought the coffee pointed to the bowls of sugar and cream. Sylvia hoped that the liquid had caffeine as she attempted to improve its flavor.
Some interesting developments occur as the party continues on their journey.

Chapter Twenty-Two - Part 4
A ship had been contacted by the dwarves to carry the group across the Mazuron. The stay within the underground realm had been enjoyable, but all understood the passing of time. Winter was close enough to fear being caught in its grip, but far enough away that one felt like a lazy fool thinking to wait for it. Geography had been discussed, and an itinerary had been formed.
The captain of the vessel was glad to learn that his guests were not against his spending time fishing. They spoke of their time crossing the Forralen Ocean and the styles of fishing used there. The captain spoke of a different type of fishing. The animals that he usually sought lived far beneath the surface. If he caught one then his mission was usually considered a success. To catch two meant that his wife was able to obtain things of luxury.
The group watched intently, and helped when they could, but did not interrupt the crew once they started preparing for their cast. The spool of thick rope that was held deep in the vessel was so huge that there was little actual cargo space. The hook was so large that the group had thought it to be an anchor. No meat was placed on the hook, but only a blood soaked mast cloth. The crew said that any real meat placed on the hook would be eaten before it reached the desired depth by creatures they did not want to catch. Tattered remains of the great cloth would however survive with enough of the blood to entice the desired aquatic beast.
The focus stays on our heroes as they learn more about their world, and others in their situation.

Chapter Twenty-Two - Part 3
Sylvia, Oggelly, and Feladin had spent time with dwarves, so knew some of their social formalities. The three handled the greetings of entering the fortress of the overlord very expertly. Larruth was raised with the teaching that all people looked to the elves for the rules on social grace. He thus did not expect to act other than he had been taught. His companions gave him warnings about differences in protocol, and with the lady beside him whispering directions he managed the change in routine.
The overlord did not feel a need to put off matters that concerned him. The group was escorted to a large meeting room where everyone in the company was seated at a large stone table. Beer was served to all as the overlord commanded General Helnorg to report his activities. It was mostly a listing of his movements to locate those who were disrupting travel along the road. The report ended with the meeting of the travelers.
The meeting with the dwarves leads to a development between our elf couple, then a development with their opposiiton.

Chapter Twenty-Two - Part 2
The group outside reacted as they heard the lady begin to chant. The dwarves lost some of their confidence as they recognized their own language while the others gained confidence that Sylvia was about to do something grand. Larruth had killed one, but that had only gained him the anger of a half dozen of the dark skinned short men. Feladin's weapon had not connected with anyone, but its heavy head had also prevented a dwarf from closing. Oggelly had moved next to some rocks and held a defended position while waiting for anyone to close. The dwarves did not seem to mind the actions of the men, although the fact that two understood the dwarven language enough to return curses was an annoyance, but the hearing of a female elven throat performing dwarven magic was unnerving to them.
The dwarves were shocked when the air around them suddenly illuminated. Hearing a dwarven chant was one thing, but realizing that the lady performing the rite actually knew what she was doing was very unexpected. Sylvia did not stop her evocations with the display, but started into another demonstration of her ability. The men defending themselves against the dwarves also did not release what dominance that they had. Larruth continued to sweep with his blades to keep each of the dwarves that surrounded him worried about being cut. Feladin kept swinging his mace preventing those around him from moving in too close. Oggelly kept up a litany of slander as he waited for someone short to step towards him. The light in the air coalesced into four distinct spheres, then shot towards the prime weapon of each of Sylvia's companions. Larruth's sword, Feladin's mace, Oggelly's sword, and Mially's knife now glowed with a power.
An unexpected fight leads to an unexpected revelation.

Chapter Twenty-One - Part 2
Feladin had no method of preparing Oggelly for certain realities of his sister. The priest did manage to convince the group to return to Castle Forshin, but he was glad that his softly spoken suggestions were not challenged. Larruth actually seemed to grasp what was going on, because he supported the move back to the royal edifice. It was not until the lady was acting extremely strange that Feladin found a moment to privately explain things to the minstrel.
Oggelly found himself having to reinterpret what he was being told, "You mean that Steve is in heat?"
The priest nodded. "They do not seem to have that connection to the activity, but I believe that is what it is."
Okay, let us see how weird this really is. "Larruth does not get like that?"
"It seems that Larruth has the same problem you and I have. We men are always in heat."
The sub-plot is completed and the main plot again takes off.

Chapter Twenty-One - Part 1
Sylvia was elated to enter a private bedroom, and her hands moved to the strings sealing her form. Mially saw the movement and told the lady to stop. Sylvia's glare told the maid to explain herself, and she stated her expectation of company. The mage disagreed.
"Larruth escorted me to the door, Mially. If he or the other men wanted to talk, they had their chance."
"It is not their style, my lady. Sit down in the front parlor and drink a glass of wine."
I start to bring a close to this sub-plot as a couple of interludes mark a transition in the story.

Chapter Twenty - Part 4
Mially was told to sit up front on the wagon with Oggelly as he drove it near the established point. Feladin and Larruth rode along with the wagon each trailing a horse. Knight Neveser, Sylvia, and Alfred skulked through the underbrush as direct as possible to their destination.
Larruth joined the three as they cowered in some bushes overlooking a section of wall. Sylvia had obviously been waiting for the prince, because at his arrival she whispered that she was ready. He gave directions to the group where camp was being established. With that news, Alfred and Sir Neveser felt they were ready as well.
The main event of the sub-plot is handled.

Chapter Twenty - Part 3
The Mage King Hiashman stepped through the tapestry that covered the access from his spell chamber into the foyer of his apartment. His valet, Pleish, looked up from where he sat reading a book. Hiashman was only slightly above average height with dark brown hair that had been rubbed out of place as he studied. The valet's hair was not as dark and his figure was not as muscular. The Mage King loved power in all its forms while the valet simply enjoyed a life slightly less troublesome than the norm.
Hiashman’s eyes went searching for the windows that he had sealed long ago as he said, "Pleish, what time is it?"
Time was not a factor that the Mage King often considered. He worked until a certain line of research either resolved itself or he collapsed. There were numerous pillows in the spell chamber. They were placed as decorative ornaments on the shelves with a few made with leather coverings to appear as books. The valet could thus easily soften the lie of his lord's head. Pleish was not exactly the time keeper, but it was his job to make certain that Hiashman did not miss any appointments.
After this interlude, the main sub-plot kicks into gear.

Chapter Twenty - Part 2
The next few days Alfred spent time with Sylvia just to see how many of the minstrel's statements were factual. The lady called out her maid to have her comb the yellow locks. No static electricity was generated. Lint, tiny bird feathers, nor any other very small item moved due to a static field. The group visited a city where Sylvia did manage to purchase some sulfur. Different substances that were believed to be raw sources of nitrates were obtained, but no flash of gunpowder was noticed. Alfred and Oggelly spent a night visiting bars, and spoke the next morning of not finding anything aluminum or of getting anyone who knew of the metal or a few other elements. Sylvia shrugged off the information simply replying that this world was very different than Alfred's home world.
Larruth truthfully did not appreciate the time that Sylvia gave to Alfred. The lady was always responsive to the prince, but he still disliked having to share time with the new member in the party. Larruth could accept Oggelly and Feladin, even though Sylvia would move and stay closer to them, but Alfred being allowed into the lady's presence was irritating to the elf man.
An interesting development in the relationship between Larruth and Sylvia.

Chapter Nineteen - Part 3
Alfred had not learned to ride a horse. Sylvia could not read while mounted, so normally traveled in the wagon along with whichever of the men did not feel like sitting on an animal. With Alfred not knowing how to control a mount, especially one of the elven horses, his only option was to ride in the wagon. Larruth did not like the idea of his lady being forced to spend the day next to the man, so strongly urged Sylvia to exercise her steed. She thought it strange that the prince would be jealous of the human, but her own knowledge of men of the other world caused her to listen to Larruth. She mounted the horse that she considered to belong to her, and spent the day riding.
The transformed navy man was rather talkative during the day. The three enjoyed their roles as perceived citizens of this world, and did their best to act innocent to Alfred's descriptions of the other world. Oggelly kept trying to get the man to describe how things worked, and whenever a process was finally detailed Sylvia would pipe in with explanations how it was all fiction due to the true physics of the present magical universe. Feladin was the worst of the three, because he kept inserting into his statements words like: bonanza, five-oh, time tunnel, mission impossible, lost in space, and others that specifically referenced old television shows.
The new member of our cast has to acclimate himself to the group.
