Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Eleven: Complete
Where I am Needed
...
I managed to look at the puppet as I replied, “Michechio, I am Lady Shinny. I want to see my son.”
How wooden eyes could get large, I could not answer. The puppet was however everything that Tough Link had described. Long reddish-brown hair fell from her head. Her small body was made of rounded sections making it appear very lady-like. She hugged me. After saying enough to verify to each other that we were who the other thought, she told me to follow her. She saw Charlie, and that she followed, but Michechio held my hand as she led me through the streets of Ronice.
I began crying again as I heard a bray sound, “MOM-MY!”
Well, Elfland is not really that bad...

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Ten: Complete
A Fairy Shrine
...
Most of the men had left early on their business, but a few were present for the more formal meal. One mentioned the goblins, and I heard Charlie speak of the fairy shrine in that direction. I at first thought she was merely making polite conversation, but knowing my husband I was not surprised to hear her inquire about any such places going in our direction. One of the men told her to keep going west when the road ended at an intersection with a road going north-south.
After hearing the information, I leaned over to ask her, “Are you sure?”
“Yes, Shinny, I am sure. No need to force Tough Link to start from scratch. I will give him what information I can.”
Information is good if it helps makes decisions.

Dwarves and Jewels
...
“You left answers behind.”
My husband and I both turned to see the small form of an elf wearing a robe of baby blue while holding a wooden staff that had large conch shell on top of it. There were a number of elves in the distance around a structure built of the native stone. Thinking about the direction we were coming from, I asked a question in response.
“You mean that we should have gone to Rapunzel?”
Attempting to adjust to changes sometimes just brings more problems.

Chapter Eight: Complete
Various Types of Birds
My husband was not so much a morning person as just someone that did not enjoy sleep. He would come to bed late, then get up early. I was used to him bothering me at all times of the day and night, and often glad when he left to go places and sell his items. There were times when he pushed himself so hard that he crashed for long periods, but they were not as often as one would suspect. I thus was not surprised to find Charlie already moving about when I finally opened my eyes.
I really did not know what we had that she could cook, but had to smile with pleasure at what I saw. “You’ve already been fishing?”
“They didn’t take my stuff. It didn’t take long.”
Our couple continues their journey.

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Seven: Complete
Facing a New Life
...
We began rowing only to hear the sound of rocks striking the water. We both told the other to row realizing that goblins were tossing the stones hoping to strike us. Daylight was clearly ahead of us. The goblins had attacked us in broad daylight, so we were not hoping for the light to save us. What we sought was no longer to have the goblins over us where they could make their attacks.
Goblins were not big, so I did not expect them to be able to toss really big stones. I actually looked to the water worried that they would attack from that direction. I guess that they feared something in the water attacking them, as none came from that direction. One rather large rock however hit behind Charlie and me to crack a seam.
The damage has been done, now our couple has to live with it.

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Six: Part Two
The Threat of Goblins
...
The goblins smiled at those words. I smiled as well as I set aside each strip of cloth. I feared that the lady’s plan would work, while I presently could only hope that my plan would work. I however tried to keep a positive attitude as I continued cutting my skirt.
The lady continued to move about my husband and her equipment. An empty glass globe was set where the one supposedly containing mermaid essence had been. I noticed a number of tubes connected to the body of my husband, but that only caused me to rush my own activities. The ceramic tub was filled with water, then a chain was released that held a ceramic top close to the ceiling. As my husband was sealed inside the tub, I put my plan into action.
In a desperate situation, one must do what they can.

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Six: Part One
The Threat of Goblins
...
Both Charles and I jumped back when the flare gun went off. Not only the fire of its trail bothered us, but that it did stop upon impacting one of our assailants. The creatures were close upon us, so the flare did not travel far before stopping. The creature screamed as it burned, and my husband and I reacted having the event occur only a few feet from us.
The death of one of the creatures did not seem to affect the others. They did not stop to stare at their companion as he screamed. They did not seem to speak any words of compassion. Any action that would one would expect from a group toward a fallen member did not occur. As if nothing had happened, the creatures continued to advance.
I hate to promote stereotypes, but goblins are always trouble.

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Five: Complete
Fairies are Real
...
I saw some berries, then spotted some mushrooms. I trusted the fruit, but not the fungi. I thus looked to study them, and finally mumbled a sensible adage.
“When in doubt, leave them out.”
“They are poisonous.”
The tiny voice had a male tone, but had none of the deep rumble that I preferred in a man’s voice. I turned to see an extremely tiny person flying with what appeared to be moth-like wings. Realizing that I was seeing my first fairy, I tried to be friendly.
It is not the fairies that you have to worry about.

The Monsters are Real
...
“Nay. Horned bears?” The children laughed, and the elf man let them for a moment before saying, “I guess that there could be such creatures. Still, nay. I guess they are more like giant lizards.”
Charles smiled feeling that he was getting a sense of what he would be up against. “Okay, so they are – what? As long as a man is tall?”
“Oh, nay, fine sir. They have mouths that could swallow a man. They are giant enough.”
Yes, this land is nothing like home.

Being Found in Elfland
Chapter Three: Complete
My Husband Adjusts
...
The city that I had pointed out was across the opening into the alcove and quite a distance further on. As Tough Link had stated, it sat near the coast, which made it easily seen although a number of miles away. My husband now pointed to it while asking his next question.
“Why don’t we head there?” As if his question needed a rationale, he added, “For the night.”
I thought the explanation was obvious. “Because we would have to swim. Tough Link had mermaids help him across the inlet. Also, however, Tough Link had to move all the way around from Nemarble. I am hoping to get to Ronice in this direction. It should be more direct.”
Different directions means different threats, but also different people.
