Bards, Tails & Poetic License Sapphire and Cindy in -
A Dream of Meeting Friends
Story One: In Darkness I Will be There
Chapter Twelve

Cindy made some movement in the water as she whispered, “Go back the way we came, Sapphire.”

“I will not leave you. I also cannot believe that the Shibelgo was swimming.”

The magic horse could not see the young lady, but he had been with her enough to feel certain about her movements. Her hand coming to his head only supported his belief in how she would act. The kiss was slightly unexpected, although not unusual for her. The words were also those he had had heard her say.

“Come on, Sapphire. We will not fail.”

Maybe, but don't believe this is going to be easy.

Sapphire and Cindy in -
A Dream of Meeting Friends
Story One: In Darkness I Will be There
Chapter Twelve

Cindy made some movement in the water as she whispered, “Go back the way we came, Sapphire.”

“I will not leave you. I also cannot believe that the Shibelgo was swimming.”

The magic horse could not see the young lady, but he had been with her enough to feel certain about her movements. Her hand coming to his head only supported his belief in how she would act. The kiss was slightly unexpected, although not unusual for her. The words were also those he had had heard her say.

“Come on, Sapphire. We will not fail.”

The sounds of moving water easily indicated that Cindy set herself to continue in the direction they had been going. Sapphire thus set himself to move forward as well. While he felt barely able to keep swimming, he gritted his teeth determined to find the energy to strike the monster. The magic horse sucked in air to somehow power his muscles upon hearing the young lady make some movement ending in a splash that he could only imagine to be her trying to strike with her weapon upon something in front of her.

The voice of the Shibelgo did not sound as close as Sapphire expected when it said, “Foolish girl. You are not presently my concern.”

The sound of water sounded odd to the magic horse, although it comforted him to hear Cindy yell, “Ellemon, I believe the Shibelgo is coming for you!” Relief flooded through the body of the magic horse when the lady then softly said, “Come here, Sapphire. The stream enters here, and it is not so deep.”

As he headed to where he felt Cindy to be, the voice of Ellemon declared, “I heard you scream for your mother, Shibelgo. Is this her down here?”

Sapphire felt himself lose his footing as the water suddenly erupted in strong movements. In fighting the sudden current, he sensed other movements around him. The sound of the low gravelly tones of the Shibelgo screaming to Ellemon told the magic horse that some nearby splashes were from the monster. His head however spun in hearing another rushing sound through the water, then the yell of Cindy.

“YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!”

Sapphire sensed real and emotional pain in the voice of the Shibelgo, “Girl, I said that you were not my concern!”

Splashes continued as the young lady said, “I don’t want any curses in my land. You are going to die just like I killed Nixamata.”

Sapphire became concerned as splashes continued while Cindy began to cry. While he could not see her, he sensed the frustration and anger of once again having to deal with the memories of the tortures she endured and the tragedies she learned about the year before. The magic horse also found himself agitated by those thoughts again surfacing, and though heavily fatigued he felt a need to strike as well. He set his front hooves against the steep wall, then shot out his rear hooves towards the mass he sensed to be the Shibelgo. Sapphire found himself sinking as his energy reserves almost disappeared. Attempting to work back tears of his own, he sought what limited reserves his body might have to somehow power his head back above water.

A front hoof caught on the edge of a rock, and its support enabled him to again break the surface. No sooner did he gulp in some fresh air, than did he feel himself struck by a mass. Worried about the Shibelgo, he wondered just how much longer his body would last. The feel of a hand however gave him pause, even as he tried to sound strong for another.

“It is me, Cindy.”

The lady panted as she used the body of the magic horse as support to stand back up. Feeling deep water beneath him, he felt her actions slightly odd. Cindy however reached down and grabbed his bridle, and with her pulling he found himself able to step up on a firm course of rock that allowed his body to come out of the liquid. A current did move towards the deep water, but it was not enough to challenge his stance.

"This is the stream, Sapphire,” the young lady said while patting his neck. “Stay here.”

The Shibelgo said, “I told you that you cannot hurt me.”

“That is a lie. I have been hurting you.”

“CINDY!” Ellemon cried. “I am coming!”

Sapphire felt the lady move away from him as she said, “Well, Shibelgo, I guess that you will die, then your mother.”

“No,” the Shibelgo said as Sapphire heard something large move in the water.

While the magic horse felt some relief to no longer have to power his body in the water, he again assessed just how much energy he might still have when he heard the splashes of Cindy moving away from him. He wanted to keep up the fight, although wondered how the young lady managed. He felt that she should be just as tired as he, but her actions declared her to still feel able to fight.

“GIRL!” the Shibelgo roared.

Water splashed between phrases as Cindy spoke while Sapphire assumed she attacked the monster. “I don’t… want you… in my life.”

Sapphire set himself to jump back into the deep water, but then heard another large splash as the voice of Ellemon declared, “You heard the lady. You will die.”

A great tumult of moving and splashing water erupted. While the magic horse wanted to react, he could not determine whether he would come upon the Shibelgo or one of his companions. Sapphire thus could only stand. As he felt his body relax from no longer having to keep itself from sinking in the water, his muscles tensed as he tried to stay ready to act. He however heard the commotion in the water and stayed unable to decide how to act.

“CINDY!” Ellemon roared.

That was enough for Sapphire to have him return to the water. He did not dive in expecting to start fighting, but he did move into the liquid hoping to be able to sense more than simply hear. Feeling a hand suddenly grab a leg caught him by surprise, but he knew the touch and sent his head down into the water to do what he could.

The sound of water continued even after raising his head above the water. The magic horse kept his focus on the coughing sound of Cindy, although he moved to provide her some protection from the other one moving in the water. He however realized that he had nothing to fear as he heard a voice speak.

“Dearie?”

Sapphire spoke to assure that the fighter knew not to attack. “She is all right, Ellemon. What about the Shibelgo?”

“We were hurting it, but it hurt Lady Cindy. I was worried about her.”

After another round of coughing, the young lady said, “I am all right, Ellemon. His blow did not hurt me, but only sent me deep. Something is down there, but as we found out with Sapphire, it is not hard.”

“I know. I was cutting into something, but if the Shibelgo had not screamed then I would not have thought that I was doing anything of worth.”

“Chordan.” As if understanding that the name was not enough, Cindy added, “We need to get his help and that of the forest people.”

Splashing could be heard as Ellemon moved away while saying, “That is a good idea, Dearie. You get help. I however was hired by Chordan to handle his fights.”

The young lady screamed out the name of the large man as the sound of water clearly indicated that he moved to jump back into the deep pool. Sapphire then heard her rise and felt her hands travel about his body. She then spoke to verify what she felt that her hands told her.

“Sapphire, you are all right?”

“The swimming wore me out, but I have not been hurt.”

“This cavern seems to be circular, so just keep moving in the direction that we were going and you should find the passage that Chordan should be coming through.”

Knowing that the young lady could not see him, the magic horse put as must power as he could in his reply. “No.”

“What?”

“I’m not going to leave you, Cindy.”

Her hands moved back to his head in a manner that he knew would have her look into his eyes. “You are not leaving me, Sapphire, but I am leaving you. I am going to kill that Shibelgo. I could use some help, so go get Chordan.”

“Chordan does not need me to get him. If he can find his way into the passage, he can find his way here.”

Her hands did not move. The magic horse sensed that her head did not move either. He almost sensed that Cindy could see him as she sternly returned.

“Then stay here. I don’t want you hurt, Sapphire.”

He stepped up to feel his nose against hers as he said, “I don’t want you hurt either. You are all that I have. You have family. You now have wealth. You now have another family as Therox’s family accepts you.”

She moved her head to kiss him as she said, “We will find you somebody, Sapphire.”

“No, Cindy. I was born due to a curse. If you die, I die.”

“The curse is no more, Sapphire.”

He stepped to press his body against hers as he said, “Cindy, my whole life you have been there for me. I cannot imagine life without you.”

Her arms wrapped around him to hug him as she said, “We will always be together, Sapphire, but we are going to have our separate lives as well. I will have my life with Therox, and we will find someone for you to have a life with. This is my life, so it is my battle.”

“No, Cindy, as I plan to live here as well. Thus, this is my fight as well.”

The young lady kissed him again, then said, “Okay, Sapphire, we go kill the Shibelgo together.”

The magic horse could not help but turn his head as a large scream filled the room. While it sounded like a triumphant victory yell from Ellemon, another sound erupted that had a painful shrill. While Sapphire considered the sound could be that of the Shibelgo dying, a deeper roar caused him to consider another source.

The arms of Cindy pulled at the magic horse to have him step away as the sound of rushing water could be heard. While neither could still see, Sapphire traded comments with the young lady about what they considered was now happening. From the sound of Ellemon yelling curses along with the noise of the disturbed liquid, the magic horse and his owner came to an agreement that something was rising from the depths.

Oh, yes, the fight does continue.
