An interesting chapter as the adventurers rejoin and begin to set themselves to overcoming their situation.
Chapter Six
Watussin looked to her husband with a half smile as she made a nod indicating that she was not running away but would fight besides him. Neither knew the strength of the invisible entity in the flimsy feminine robe, but were prepared to face it. One less undead in this house would make them feel a little safer. Having their thoughts on combat however, both elves turned as they heard the human lady behind them sheath her weapon.
Fenshallit moved towards the advancing entity as she said, "It is Dethii."
Neither elf sheathed their weapons, and almost used them as the invisible being quickly moved to the white haired lady. The stance of the form beneath the gown was not antagonistic as it stopped before Fenhallit however. The lady acted as if she was trying hard to hear some words while feeling a hand, but then the lady moved as if burdened by a great weight.
"Rain," Fenshallit attempted to keep the volume of her voice low as she spoke her command, "help me get Dethii to my room. I fear that she is near death."
Both elves returned their weapons to a safe position. Luckily, the gown helped the man know where and how to hold the invisible lady. Fenshallit proved herself more than able to carry her part of the weight, and actually seemed able to carry the whole burden except that she was very concerned for Dethii's comfort. Watussin moved ahead of the two to assure that the corridors continued to be free of servants, and to open any doors.
As Rain and Fenshallit were about to enter the bedroom, each stopped due to hearing some voices at a distance. Each recognized the voice of Jackal. The human lady's face showed extreme pleasure in knowing that her husband had arrived, but her voice spoke with concern.
"I am certain that my lord has his story that you two need to hear. Both of you hide in a corner however, because we were not supposed to be out. Let us quickly place Dethii in the bed, and I will do what I can to assure that the servant does not notice her."
Rain wanted to make a comment about someone noticing an invisible lady, but understood that the gown and other factors could reveal her. Fenshallit solved one problem once Dethii was placed on the bed, she took off the gown. The invisible lady softly mumbled about being cold. Fenshallit moved to her luggage as she whispered for the lady to stay quiet and still for a short period. Returning with some needlepoint, the visible human lady spread the cloth of her skirt around her as she sat on the bed and held her needle over the cloth. Rain felt uneasy because he could make out the mage's form under a section of Fenshallit's skirt. Watussin was also nervous as she realized that the needle that the human lady held did not have any thread through its eye. The door to the room was being opened however, so neither moved or spoke.
Jackal stepped into the room as he said, "Major, I assure you that much will be explained in the morning. We however both need a bath and some rest."
Another voice returned, "Please ask your companions to understand that I need to present a complete story to my superiors, including the viscount. It thus would not help to withhold any information."
Before Fenshallit saw her husband completely enter the room, she heard the butler tell him that bath water would be delivered as soon as it could be heated. The white haired lady wanted to tell her husband to send the servant away, but saw the dampness in his clothes and understood that the hot water would be also useful in tending to another. She thus simply noted that it was not feasible to allow activity in the room to become overly overt.
Jackal was surprised that his wife did not rush towards him, but continued to sit on the bed as a pretty flower. Suspecting something not being proper, he did not move to her, but his body turned as he heard a key lock the door after it had been closed. Turning back from the door the muscular man saw more activity than he expected, so held back telling his story as he waited for others to tell him theirs.
"My lord," Fenshallit said moving off the bed, "we have found Dethii. I fear that she is near death however. We cannot allow her to be captured again."
Jackal moved to his wife and wanted to hold her, but as his arms parted drops of water fell off him. Fenshallit saw the water, but moved close enough to share a soft kiss with her husband before speaking some more. Watussin moved to Jackal as her husband joined Fenshallit in explaining the situation while starting their care for the invisible lady. As the elf lady helped the bard remove his wet garments, Jackal told of his adventure. By the time that the butler returned with hot water for the bath, enough information had been transferred to enable everyone to work together to assure that the servant only saw what he needed to see.
Rain took a blanket and tossed it over Dethii. As the others wondered what he was about, the cleric cast a spell and all were pleased that now the form of the mage was revealed. Now being able to better determine the true health of the resting lady, Rain worked what powers he could to improve her condition. The man finally left the bed and informed his wife that they needed to get some sleep. Fenshallit assured Watussin that she would continue to watch over the sleeping mage. No longer feeling useful, the violet haired elf agreed to exit with her husband.
Fenshallit smiled to her husband as she again soaked her cloth in the warm soapy water of his bath. The white haired lady was concerned that the man might catch a cold after walking around damp from being immersed in the stream water, but understood that he was in a much better condition than another. Jackal also was hers to keep around her, but another really needed to be restored in order that she could return to her own life.
The white haired lady considered the life that she presently had. Assured that Dethii was sleeping peacefully, Fenshallit moved around a partition to again be in the presence of her husband. He was resting in the metal tub with his head jerking as he attempted to fight off unconsciousness. The man became more alert as his wife approached, and his mind tossed away any immediate desire for sleep as she unfastened her skirt. After laying the bottom part of her dress over the partition, Fenshallit removed a linen garment next to her skin. Jackal's view of certain parts of his wife were blocked by full bodied linens normally underneath the colorful outer garments, but their hems were pulled up to her hips as the lady stretched her legs over the sides of the heavy metal tub and sat down at the top of the opposite end than the man had his head.
There was no doubt that Jackal was watching as her hands moved to her back to release certain laces, but Fenshallit spoke to make certain that she had his full attention. "A bodice is not the easiest thing to remove."
A hand came out of the soapy water as Jackal said, "I will just get the garment wet if I tried to help."
"You are right, my lord, but there is another part of me that is wet already. You can thus go ahead and touch there."
Watussin did not understand how Rain could be thinking certain thoughts after all the activity that occurred that day. She would not refuse her husband. To be honest, she would not refuse the man whether he was her husband or not. She owed Rain her life and her freedom. More importantly, she respected him. There was another man to which most of those same honors applied, but Jackal honored his friend by not making certain demands. Watussin had to admit that she would resist any advances that he might ever make for the same reason. The violet haired lady saw no faults in her husband, and would not be responsible for creating a blemish in him.
Rain held his wife as he continued to fight an inner voice that said she was not real. He thought she was beautiful. He touched her hair and kissed her lips just to assure himself that she was not an illusion. His hands moved to release the garments around her just to assure himself that what he had was a complete lady, and not just some statuary or disguised charlatan. His mind reveled in the form that was revealed underneath the finery, but a part of him still argued that this was merely a fantastic dream. He thus did not stop touching.
At some point the man realized that his lady was not as responsive as normal. He fully accepted that he had not had her long enough to be present during all of her moods, so definitely could not recognize every mixture of features. He wanted to learn everything he could about his wife, so stalled certain developments in order to see what new things there were to discover.
The lady apologized to her husband for ruining his mood. His hands moved about her body assuring her that no plans for her were cast away, but that he did want to know what other thoughts were in her head. She went about his body determined to reset certain actions, but sensed that his mind was seeking other avenues. Watussin determined that she could work at resolving both problems, and told her husband to lay down as she took over control of a certain activity. Achieving a desired result, the lady had her body move in a certain rhythm. As Rain watched his wife and enjoyed certain sensations, he found himself suddenly confronted with a question to which he could only respond with a question.
"What am I to supposed to be hearing?"
"Our bed is metal, my lord."
The baseboard and headboard were wood. Each was originally a large thick plank of some heavy hardwood that had been shaped and carved for their present use. The baseboard looked rather grotesque as large claws came up and met. The headboard was more restful in that a pair of wings lifted.
As Rain kept his focus on his wife, he tried to hear what she was listening to. The lady smiled as a change came to his expression that indicated that he had indeed noticed a certain sound. Not only did he and Watussin make soft utterances to their activity, but the bed on which they moved responded. The noises from the bed were not the creaks and groans of once living material being forced to twist and stretch, but soft grating sounds and tinkles.
It was enough for Watussin that her husband had allowed himself to be directed by her. Having a sense that he was indeed willing to allow his wife some control over their relationship, the violet haired lady allowed herself to become immersed in the sensations that were coming from her body. Rain did not ruin the moment by forcing his wife to suddenly reveal more, but relaxed in the pleasure that he had managed to successfully follow her signals. Gaining a very strong feeling that his wife was definitely real, he enjoyed the pleasure of her presence.
Major Chedrau was uncertain about the room he was brought to. The fireplace was lit and the aroma of cedar filled the room. Competing with that fragrance however was the cloying aroma of a large amount of incense burning in a brazier. The military officer wanted to turn and complain to the butler, but the action was too slow and he only spun to see the door shut.
The man turned back around as a female voice said, "I heard the report that one of my sisters was killed tonight."
The woman did not appear to be properly attired. The style of the dress did at first seem more than respectable, but there was something strange to the cloth. As the lady approached, the major realized that he could see through what had from a distance appeared to be thick elegant material. The skirt had been sliced into ribbons so that the lady’s bare legs showed as she walked. The cloth covering her chest was nothing more than a gauze enabling a view of the peaks of her feminine mounds. Extremely uncertain of his situation, the military officer did not allow himself to enjoy certain sights, but lifted his gaze to look at those features he considered himself safe to behold.
The face was pale, but the ashen skin only seemed to enhance the color of the woman's features. Her red lips appeared to be very ripe fruit. The dark hair wonderfully accented the roundness of the face. The thick eyebrows brought out the whiteness around the eyes, but that in turn caused the dark brown eyes to jump out and catch the attention of those who looked at her.
Major Chedrau did look into the lady's eyes, and he smiled as she told him that she would accept his presence just as her sister had. The man did not move his hands to touch the lady. It was not just a fear of causing damage to the flimsy garments, but the officer feared doing anything that would make the woman displeased with him. The pale lady smiled at the officer, and the expression became more pronounced as she realized that the man was doing nothing to prevent her from approaching.
The military man did see the white teeth. He thought the smile lovely. The long canines were not alarming at all, but simply another unique feature of this wonderful lady. When she mentioned wondering what he tasted like, Major Chedrau lowered his head so she could reach his neck.
Well, sometimes it seems that you just cannot win. To see how this story progresses, you will need to wait.
