History of Mardon Castle
Chapter Seven
Part 3
...
"I LOVE YOU, TERNIFF!"
She could only stare into the wet darkness as she heard her man laugh. He then shouted out a thanks to Helshain before again screaming out her name a few times. Terniff did not know how to respond, even as she understood that Renwyn was not in pain.
The voice of the kevalla screamed out, "Damn human! Go to bed! It is wet and cold! I can hardly feel my blood moving in my body!"
Terniff jumped as the face of Renwyn suddenly rushed to her. She felt herself becoming wet not just from his soaked body wrapping itself around hers, but also from him carrying her out into the rain. While she had not been able to see him before, now she could also feel him as he again used his voice.
"I LOVE TERNIFF!" He dropped his volume as he said, "I could not previously say your name. It takes a tongue to say your name, Terniff. I could not say 'love' either. Now I can blare both with all being able to understand. You had better like hearing me say your name."
Ah, the changes that come after marriage.
History of Mardon Castle
Chapter Seven
Part 3
"TERNIFF!"
The lady jumped from where she sat on the ground. The horror of having gone to sleep came upon her as she quickly worked to get her feet under her. She looked for Renwyn as she again heard his voice.
"TERNIFF! TERNIFF! TERNIFF!"
She looked out into the darkness of night that was further blackened by thick clouds dropping a steady flow of water. The lady wished for a lamp, but did not turn her eyes from the darkness as she heard Renwyn out there screaming her name. He did not sound in pain, but him screaming her name caused her to feel the need to rush to him.
She tried to allow herself to feel some of the man's joy as she said, "I have always liked hearing you speak, Renwyn."
A hand dropped from its place on her back to grab her rump as he said, "And there is something else you liked about me."
Terniff really did not appreciate the act. While she understood Renwyn could not see her expression of disgust, she prevented herself from voicing any displeasure. She again tried to understand the joy of Renwyn in having his body restored. Terniff felt the hand upon her butt and had to admit that a change had now come to her life as well. She thus tried to put a playful tone to her voice as she spoke to the man.
"I am your wife, Renwyn."
Water filled her face as the man kissed her before he said, "Oh, yes, and we shall have many children. There will be a multitude of voices that will eventually scream out your name, Terniff."
"Let us not rush things, Renwyn."
He grunted, then said, "Yes, it might take a little time before my body fully regains its strength. I can feel it happening, so I want you to know that you will soon have the man you wanted. I also want you to know that I do want you as my wife, Terniff. You will share my bed tonight, and every night hereafter. I will have you, Terniff."
"Of course, Renwyn."
He began to speak on how lost he had felt when taken by the enemy, then the feeling of despair that came over him while being tortured. Terniff felt water work into her hair as Renwyn held her head while kissing her during a monologue on his rescue. He had her dance in the rain and darkness as he spoke on his life with her during the war and on their journey to her home. While Terniff did not like being wet or being forced to move in the darkness, the sound of joy in Renwyn's voice had her stay with him.
A flash of lightning revealed another figure. The sight took her by surprise because she had not associated the rain with a storm. Clouds would simply gather in Mardon and drop their water. A rumble of distant thunder let the lady know that this rain was part of a normal weather system, and not simply a part of the curse upon the land. Terniff looked up to the sky hoping for another shaft of light, but found herself wondering whether her earlier vision had been real. Her experience of dealing with illusions in the past war made her immediately question what her eyes had momentarily seen. What troubled her more was that she considered it strange seeing what she felt had been Telelum, because of a belief that Helshain's personal section of the surrounding land was a private and holy place, so not a locale where those uninvited, especially ghosts, could come.
She stopped moving with Renwyn to try and make out the other presence when another shaft of lightning illuminated the land, although the water falling upon her and the quickly enveloping darkness made gaining a clear image next to impossible. Her man, husband, definitely noticed that she stopped moving with him. Terniff felt strong arms come around her as he sought her presence with his hands.
"Why did you stop?"
"I saw Telelum."
She could feel him turn away from her as he asked, "What? The ghost?"
"Yes. When the lightning flashed, I saw his figure."
Terniff could tell that Renwyn now attempted to look through the darkness as he asked, "Was he wet?"
"What? I only saw him for a moment."
"If he was a ghost, he wouldn't be bothered by the rain."
Having just finished fighting a war where illusions were common, Terniff had learned how little details could help substantiate one's reality. She thus pressed her mind to remember the momentary glimpse that she gained of the legendary person. Feeling certain that she had a clear recollection of the momentary sight, she answered the man.
"Yes, yes, Renwyn..."
"My lord."
Terniff felt a need to clarify that she meant that Telelum was wet, so could only blurt out a question of surprise in realizing that Renwyn’s statement referred to something else. "What?"
"You are my wife, Terniff."
She clearly caused her voice to indicate that she considered something else to be of importance as she said, "You will get your honor, Renwyn."
"You said that you were my wife, so I should have my honor."
Terniff wanted to get mad at him. She held herself back however with the understanding that she had been in charge of their relationship. Renwyn had never been a slave, and she had repeatedly told the man that he would be her husband. While the status of wife kept her as an equal with the man, she accepted that he probably felt a need to reaffirm his self-esteem. Accepting that Renwyn wanted to again feel as a complete man, and that as her husband there were traditional methods she should address him, Terniff went ahead and confirmed a change to her life.
"Don't you ever doubt my commitment to you, my lord."
"And don't you ever doubt my love of you, Terniff. Now, was Telelum wet?"
She remembered already answering that question, although then understood that it had not been clearly stated. "Yes, my lord, he was wet."
"Drat, if it wasn't so dark, we could track him."
"Still, we saw him. We need to bring word to Tasbirn."
"Yes." Renwyn moved his arms to lift her as he added, "In the morning."
The man brought her to their tent. She was surprised that he could carry her, as she was not the small, light, or delicate thing such as Nalisha. Terniff also knew that a few gallons of water had added its weight to her form. Renwyn however seemed thrilled with the ability to possess her form, and however much she encumbered him he spoke proudly of having her to hold. He did not set her down in the tent with any sign of being tired, but eagerly set himself to handling her in other ways.
He took off her clothes stating his pleasure in seeing her naked body. She knew he had seen it before, but the power of his speech let her know that with his body restored he saw her differently. The way Renwyn handled her breasts stated that he did not consider them a delicate part of her body, but treasures that were now his. When a certain garment fell to the floor he did not look into her eyes with a countenance of being pleased with her trust in him, but of having access to something that no other man would ever have.
Terniff did not remove his clothes, but as Renwyn worked his way out of his soaked garments she dried her hair and prepared their bed. She did feel concerned about the change in attitude of the man, although trusted in her knowledge of him that had developed in almost two years of having him in her power. When he became naked, he came upon her with a touch slightly more powerful than she ever remembered. Nothing he did harmed her. Terniff did want to complain at times, but only because his touch came a little more forceful than she desired. As a hand came through her hair to force her head upon his lips, she accepted that she was now his wife even as she reminded herself that he was still her man.
Okay, we had a chapter on relationships, so now it is time to get back to the main story.
