“That evil man deserves a butt-kicking! Isn’t that right, Boo?” Minsc said to a furball in his hand. “He killed Dynahier!”
“Sorry to hear that, Minsc,” Celüith said regretfully. “Dynahier was a good companion.”
“I won’t cry for the dead! Well, maybe a little, but my tears will be staunched with some evil butt-kicking!” Minsc declared.
“We will leave you here if you won’t stop your whining,” Thráwen said, winking at Imoen.
Celüith threw a dirty look at Thráwen.
“How did Boo get to you anyway?” Celüith said, trying to be more diplomatic.
“Never ask questions better left to aged sages. Boo is quick and evasive, and there is ever so much of Minsc to search, there is no hope of getting us apart,” Minsc said.
“Eww, I don’t want to think about that too much,” Imoen said, wrinkling her nose.
“I will leave you behind if you can’t keep your head,” Thráwen declared.
Celüith cast another dirty look.
“You leave those in need behind? You are no better that those who killed Dynahier!” Minsc cried desperately.
“You are clearly insane. We shall leave you here,” Thráwen said, right as Celüith was going to speak.
“RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!” Minsc roared as Thráwen hid behind the cells, taking Imoen with her.
There was a loud creak while Minsc bent the bars into a wide opening meant for a very large man, maybe even an orc.
“The bars bend and twist with my berserker strength! Now I—I…” Minsc said, stopping. He bent his ear to the little furball in his hand.
“Oooh, you are a smart one! Smart as Boo sometimes! You make me mad, mad enough to break free!” Minsc said, smiling as Thráwen peeked out from the cell.
Celüith looked at Minsc, then Boo, then Thráwen, and his face softened with recognition, then reddened with silent embarrassment. Why hadn’t he thought of that?
“Minsc and Boo are Minsc and Boo, and we shall not be separated! Shall we go? The butts of evil await my bootprint!!” Minsc said cheerfully.
“'Ahhh, what the hell. Right you are, Minsc! Where e'er evil dost lay its dirty feet, we shall mop the floor with its buttocks!” Thráwen said half-heartedly.
Minsc looked at her blankly.
“I have lost myself in your words, but Boo just thinks you’re ducky. Onward!” Minsc said, scratching his bald, tattooed head.
They walked west and soon reached another cell. In the cell was a woman with copper-like hair. She was facing them, shaking her bangs clear of her face.
“Quickly, we must get out of here. I swear, traveling with you is never dull,” Jaheira said, if somewhat wryly.
“Ah, Jaheira! What happened to Khalid?” Celüith asked.
“I don’t know. He could be anywhere,” Jaheira said.
Imoen pulled out her tools and picked at the lock.
“It’s no good. Her lock is too complex. We need a magical key of some sort,” Imoen said, facing Thráwen.
“I’m glad you figured that out,” Jaheira said sarcastically. “The key is in the next room, with a golem in it. I’m sure you can figure that out quicker.”
“Okay. But you really have to get out of that sour mood,” Thráwen said.
“Hmph.”
Thráwen walked and Minsc and Boo followed. Imoen quickly caught up as Celüith stood there puzzled.
“I thought I was the leader of the group,” Celüith said.
He soon caught up with Imoen, trying not to stay with Jaheira.
Thráwen opened the door into the room and light flooded her eyes. She closed her eyes momentarily, trying to adjust to the new artificial light. Soon, she took in her surroundings.
There was an ogre sized man, with huge muscles and his skin tone was brownish.
“Hello, friend!” Thráwen said.
The man didn’t answer, staring forwards.
Imoen came into the room. She gasped.
“A golem,” she said, studying the golem.
Thráwen muttered a soft “oops” and looked to the floor, abashed.
Then, something caught her eyes. It was a rusty key on a table with tons of weapons.
She was careful to snatch the key from the table. The golem didn’t move. She snatched a sword from the table. The golem didn’t move. She then started hoarding the weapons and armor. The golem didn’t move.
Imoen went to a chest and opened it.
“Minsc, a little help lifting all this stuff here?” Thráwen said.
Minsc went to Thráwen and lifted up some of the stuff she was carrying.
“Thank you,” said Thráwen as Imoen was donning a leather suit.
Imoen looked at the suit of armor around her body. It felt good to wear armor again. Then, she picked up a dagger and twirled it in her fingers. She then sheathed it in her boot.
Thráwen unlocked Jaheira’s cell and told her she can join.
“We shall celebrate once we get out of this hole,” Thráwen suggested.
Jaheira simply nodded her head and walked past Thráwen.
Thráwen laid out the weapons and armor on the floor for everyone to choose what they want. Thráwen chose a katana and leather armor. Celüith chose a longsword, a medium shield, and some splint mail, while Minsc decided to put on some chainmail and a two-handed sword. Jaheira pulled out a spear and twirled it around a bit.
“This is like a quarterstaff, despite the spearhead,” she muttered. She stabbed with it a little. “A nice little monster pulverizer.”
She then donned some leather armor and looked at it much like Imoen. Fingering her armor, she remarked, “Hm. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a skin-tight costume. Never realized I had a great figure.”
Thráwen snickered at Jaheira’s sarcastic comment. She then got up and pulled out her katana. Swinging it around, she marveled how well she did, as she hadn’t done that in a long time.
“Okay, enough playing around. Let’s get outta here,” Thráwen said, pointing her sword towards the place where the thief was burnt up.
