News » Spirit Hunter
Spirit Hunters are dedicated to seeking out and eliminating the undead. While spirit hunters come from a variety of backgrounds, and possess a wide range of alignments and religious beliefs, all of them share an all-consuming hatred for the undead. Their primary motivation is to rid the world of the unholy abominations, and because not all hunters are good, the end usually justifies the means. Hunters of the dead often find common cause with clerics, paladins, and rangers with undead as a favored enemy.

Class Features
All of the following are Class Features of the spirit hunter prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: spirit hunters gain proficiency with simple weapons, light and medium armor, and shields.
Spells per Day/Spells Known: At 2nd level and every two levels higher than 2nd (4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th), a spirit hunter gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that she adds half the level of spirit hunter (rounded up) to the level of some other divine spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly.
Turning Undead: A spirit hunter is able to turn (not rebuke) undead at his class level. If the hunter possessed previous turning abilities, then the levels stack. The hunter can turn the undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier.
Smite Undead: Once per day, a spirit hunter may attempt to smite undead with one normal melee attack. He adds his Charisma bonus (if any) to the attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per spirit hunter level. If the spirit hunter smites a creature that is not undead, the smite has no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. At 3rd level, and at every three levels thereafter, the spirit hunter may smite undead one additional time per day, to a maximum of four times per day at 10th level.
Spurn Death's Touch: At third level, a spirit hunter gets to apply his Charisma modifier (if any) as a bonus to all saving throws versus effects and spells used by undead and necromancy spells from any source.
True Death: At fifth level, any undead slain by a spirit hunter’s smite attack can never rise again as undead.
Positive Energy Burst: At seventh level, a spirit hunter gains the ability to sacrifice turning attempts to create a positive energy burst that inflicts 1d6 damage for each turning attempt sacrificed to every undead creature within 30' of the character. Undead are allowed a Reflex save (DC 10 + half spirit hunter level + charisma bonus) to negate the damage.
Sealed Life: At ninth level, a spirit hunter becomes immune to energy drain and ability damage caused by the attacks and abilities of undead.
Restrictions: Spirit Hunters must destroy any undead they encounter. While this does not preclude strategic retreats, abandoning the battle entirely is unacceptable. A Spirit Hunter who violates this restriction loses all class abilities until he atones for his misdeeds.
