Aster’s Path
Chapter 2: Imoen Nimblefingers
Aster is my best friend in the whole world, I can't let anything bad happen to her. She's leaving away from Candlekeep, probably never to come back. I can't let her go. Something's going to harm her, I can just feel it. Something wants to harm her. I can't let her go, I just can't. There's no way to stop her, though. Gorion is far more powerful than me. Even if I had spells I wouldn't be able stop her from going. I have to think about this.
Aha! I've got it! I'll go with her. Gorion would never let me, but I have it all planned out. I will sneak behind them and follow them. Then I'll reveal myself when we're too deep into the woods, therfore I can't go back alone, and Gorion can't leave Aster alone, so they'll have to make me come along. Ah, I'm such a genius!
Things didn't go out as I planned. In fact, things went really wrong. It was the most horrible night.
I heard heavy, armored footfalls during the night. Gorion and Aster didn't seem to notice, but they seemed to speed up.
"Shush, someone's approaching," Gorion said.
The man in armor scraped up towards Aster and Gorion, staying at about 10 paces away from them.
"Hand over your ward, Gorion, and nobody will be hurt," the armored man said.
He had a cold, emotionless voice. His voice sounded much like his screechy armor, except with a much lower timbre.
"I will not be fooled by your pettiness. I cannot trust you," Gorion said, obviously trying to sound calm. His voice seemed to shake a little though. Gorion was scared, and if this armored man ever wanted to attack them...
It was horrible. It all happened at once. The man threatened a couple of times, but Gorion would not be moved. The armored man finally attacked. All around, these huge, hideous creatures were moving around. And a dark figure moved swiftly through the night. It was apparent that this was no man; her bust size is notably large.
Gorion knocked them all out, except for the woman and the armored man. The woman was nowhere to be seen, so I watched the battle with caution. Gorion had hurt the armored man pretty bad, though; the man was practically using his broadsword for support. It was horrible what followed after. It seemed there was no sound, everything slowed down terrifyingly to show the horror occurring. It tortured me.The shadowed lady sneaked up behind Gorion as he was casting his last spell. She stuck a wickedly curved sword through his stomach, blood spilling out. Gorion gazed at the large hole in his stomach then held his stomach trying to keep in his life force. To no prevail, of course, and he looked up at the man in anguish, then his eyes lost spark. He fell to the ground, emitting a sickening thud that broke the silence spell that was upon me. It seemed like a silence spell anyway.
Then I remembered. Aster! Where was she? I had to save her! But, she escaped, right?
I mean, the armored man would never catch her! She's to smart for him, right? She was
nowhere in sight. Tears came to my eyes as I realized that she might not have run away.
I certainly wouldn't have. Everything was too fascinating. While it was sickening, it
made my stomach churn. But it felt good. My heart gave a jump, filling me with slight
glee. No! This is Gorion that's dead! He's too powerful to die! But there it is, in my head, Gorion dying.
After what seemed like hours, the two people finally left. I ran around, looking for Aster. I dared not call her name, in case the people were still listening. Then I saw a gleam. Aster's sword! I ran to it. Attached to it was Aster's hand. I followed it upthe arm, somewhat doubtful of that it could really be Aster. There she was: her brown hair, her angled face. She was badly injured. I could see an arrow in her shoulder. It wasn't bleeding, though; it seemed to be badly burned around the edges. I looked at her face, and she was falling in and out of consciousness. I didn't know what to do.
"Im-" she struggled. "Im- Imoen. Get me to Ff- ff-"
"Ff what?" I asked, nearly shaking her. I needed to get her to the right place.
She slipped out of consciousness again.
"Arrrgggggg!" I screamed to the sky.
I thought some more and it came to me.
"Friendly Arms Inn!" I said. It was the closest inn. It had to make sense. I picked her
up and carried her on my shoulders. It was an amazing feat of strength on my part, but
I could not let her down. I had to get her to Friendly Arms Inn.
