Okay, I am presenting a monster that I created for my game. It came up in the scenario that I was stealing, and in researching the monster I wondered why this monster was not used more by others. This version has been slightly cleaned up from how I ran it the other night. Note that the presentation might appear to be 3ed, but it is really according to my system (Antheel Rules). Still, most should be able to easily convert it into their game.

Nuckelavee
Large Magical Beast
Hit Dice: 6d12 + 24 (63hp)
Initiative: +1 (+1 Dex)
Speed: 40 ft.
AC: 18 (-1 Size, +1 Dex, +2 Deflection, +6 Natural)
Attacks: 1: Bite +5 or 1: Hoof
Damage: 1d6+3 (Bite piercing, Hoof Bludgeoning)
Face/Reach: 10’ by 5' / 5’
Special Attacks: Noxious Aura, Rear Kick
Special Qualities: SR16
Saves: Fort. +7/Reflex +4/Will +2
Abilities: Str 16, Dex 13, Con 19, Int 8, Wis 11, Cha 5
Skills: Climb +5, Escape Artist +2, Hide +2, Jump +2
Feats: Expertise, Improved Bull Rush
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Climate/Terrain: Any forest, scrub area, or desert
Organization: Usually only a solitary figure or pair
Challenge Rating: 6
Treasure: None
Alignment: Tends to chaotic-evil
Advancement: As monster

A nuckelavee resembles a centaur whose legs have strange growth appearing as fins instead of hair. It has an enormous gaping mouth and a single giant eye, which burns with a red flame. The most gruesome detail of the appearance of a nuckelavee is the fact that it has no skin. Black blood courses through yellow veins, and the pale sinews and powerful muscles are visible as a pulsating mass. The Nuckelavee has an aversion of running water, and those who are chased by it have only to cross a stream to be rid of it.

Combat
The nuckelavee does not have a need to decimate its opposition. While it does have a mean attack, its noxious aura is enough to seriously weaken most opponents. The nuckelavee only needs to follow. The monster thus tends to Bull Rush into the middle of any attackers, do what immediate damage it can, then use Expertise and wait for opponents to fall.

Noxious Aura(ex): The lack of skin causes for sickly internal gases to permeate the area around the nuckelavee. All around the monster within 5’ must make a Fort. save (DC16) or suffer 1d4 Str. every round, then checked every minute after the monster is no longer in the character’s presence taking a further 1d4 Str. until it saves.

Rear Kick: If anyone is behind the Nuckelavee, they will be kicked (+2 to-hit adjustment with 50% concealment) for 1d6+4 points of damage.

OMG!

This monster was discussed in a post a few years ago; I'll never find the original post because it was in the "2ed trivia knowledge" game thread, but at the time, I copied the monster and saved it up until just a couple of months ago and finally used it!

I actually took all the most deadly aspects of the different versions of this monster to make the deadliest creature imaginable. (I normally am not a "killer DM", but the PCs were in an adventure that required the utmost in deadliness; this monster fit the bill).

What a great monster! Originally from Scotish legend, or something, isn't it?

Of course, the players in my game were unfamiliar with it, so it really freaked them out, almost killed them, terrified them.

Fortunately for the PCs, they had sent their henchmen off to another area of the adventure, so I didn't get to kill any henchies with it.

I was able to find a couple of frightening pics on the internet of the beastie.

If you can find the4 original post, there a re a few versions of this creature listed.

Great monster, Terish!

Wow, yeah the second edition trivia. I think I got this one right, but only from a lore format. I didn't know what it was in game terms. Great job with the creation there TerishD.
