So my husband had a dream the other night that I want to share with you, just 'cause it's hilarious. You know, one of those dreams that is really effed up, but you don't notice because it seems perfectly normal.
He dreamed that he was preparing for a game he was DMing and coming up with a lot of good ideas to put on notecards.
Only he didn't have any notecards, so he used slices of bread. That's right. He was meticulously writing notes on slices of bread.
He got through most of a loaf, and thought, "Man! I'm gonna need a lot more bread!"
When he awoke, he tried to remember all the good ideas that he had come up with in his dream -- apparently some genius DM plan -- but they all went right out of his head because he couldn't stop thinking, "What was up with the bread?"

I have used ideas from dreams, but I enjoy getting a little bizarre. My players actually nod when I say that I dreamed something, as it seems more natural than actually believing that my waking mind conceived some of the stuff that I design.
I never can remember the grand stuff either. I will remember a weird setting, a monster with an odd attack, or some other strange little tidbit that I then have to flesh out for myself. As for writing the stuff down on bread? With jelly, peanut butter, honey, or what? Come on, you don't use ink on bread -- well, maybe in a dream, but it still usually leaves the mouth a bad color. Of course, if you burn the bread, you can then write on it pretty well by scraping off the black. I think that I am taking this topic a little too seriously, but -- you know, I might have an idea for my next scenario.
