I just remembered the time MY paladin character fought stirges.
The members of the party were all about Level 2 or 3. The only weapon my paladin had at the time was a long spear.
Can you imagine trying to fight stirges with a long spear? "Hold still! Hold STILL!"
My paladin fumbled with a natural 1, and the DM rolled "Hit Ally" on the fumble die.
I rolled max damage, and almost killed another party member. I mean, it's lucky we play with "death's door" rules because I took him down to about -5 HP.
My paladin was mortified that it had happened, even though it was an accident.
As a penance, my paladin decided that every attack she made would be a called shot at -4 to make her blows more accurate.
She can still fumble on a natural 1, but there will never be the "hit ally" result if she fumbles.

How does one determine the price of an animal, specifically a stirge?
Thanks,

Well, how much money do you have?
That's a joke. If you are the one with the stirges, you can sell them for whatever you desire. The problem is getting someone to buy them. If you want to purchase a stirge, the problem will be finding someone that has them to sell.
Think of bats. When was the last time that you went into a pet store and saw a bat for sell? I am not saying that it could not happen, but it generally does not. Now, how about a vampire bat? Now, how about a pesky creature that does not simply lap up blood, but sticks its proboscus into someone to suck their blood. I believe that you get the message. Such a creature is not something anyone will want, or bother to capture in order to sell.
Beyond that, it is fantasy, and things can happen. I however cannot give you a price. It depends on the society and location of your campaign. Use your imagination and see what happens. That is the fun of the game.

If you really want to unload these babies like hotcakes, you should have some kind of side quest to find a market, like Calimshan perhaps, where they buy and sell just about everything you can think of, the weirder the better, or maybe even a planar mission to the markets of Sigil where you CAN potentially find anything that you can possibly think of, if you look hard enough.

Ok thanks, but i was wondering if their was a formula based on the animals potential usefulness and rarity.
btw getting my party to leave the current adventure to go back to town with me was a challenge. The rogue agreed, but i neeed to resurect a long dead adventure and breathe some life into as i had once promised for my pally who is not interested in my stirges while i trian them for a year. I'm handling 3 of them and the rogue 2. Wish us luck... and wish my pally luck(Hehe He should know better than to attack a bugbear hideout, but if he dies its on him)
Thanks,
